چکیده

Lichens are symbiotic organisms composed of at least one fungal and algal species. They found in different environments around the world, even poles deserts. Some species can withstand extreme abiotic conditions, including radiation vacuum space. Their chemistry is mainly due to metabolism production several secondary metabolites with biological activity, which have been isolated an increasing interest from pharmaceutical community. However, beyond experimental data, little known about their mechanisms action potential use these kinds molecules, especially ones lesser-known and/or lesser-studied countries. The main objective this review analyze bibliographical data activity lichens, identifying possible lichen Chile. We carried out a bibliographic revision scientific articles order collect all necessary information on For this, validated databases were used. most recent reports where vitro vivo studies demonstrated properties metabolites. namely anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory 26 described, as well reported molecular mechanisms. notable usnic acid, atranorin, protolichesterinic lobaric acid. Usnic acid was investigated metabolite, addition undergoing toxicological pharmacological studies, hepatotoxicity effect uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation. Additionally, no major made validate application metabolites, few advancements artificial growth bioreactors. Despite described activities, there support consider formulations or evaluate them clinical trials. Nevertheless, it important carry further regarding human health effects. These present promising research opportunity find new molecules bioactive properties.

Secondary metabolites from Rubiaceae species.

This study describes some characteristics of the Rubiaceae family pertaining to the occurrence and distribution of secondary metabolites in the main genera of this family. It reports the review of phytochemical studies addressing all species of Rubiaceae, published between 1990 and 2014. Iridoids, anthraquinones, triterpenes, indole alkaloids as well as other varying alkaloid subclasses, have s...

Bioactivity of secondary metabolites and thallus extracts from lichen fungi

Fungal secondary compounds and total extracts are known to affect growth of bacteria, fungi, and plants. This study tested the effects of purified compounds and total extracts from three lichens on the growth of two plant pathogens, Ophiostoma novo-ulmi ssp. americana and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. Usnic acid showed no reduction in relative growth rates (RGR), whereas vulpinic acid reduced RGR f...

Lichen secondary metabolites from the cultured lichen mycobionts of Teloschistes chrysophthalmus and Ramalina celastri and their antiviral activities.

Lichens and spore-derived cultured mycobionts of Teloschistes chrysophthalmus and Ramalina celastri were studied chemically, and results indicated that they produced, respectively, parietin and usnic acid as major secondary metabolites, which were purified and identified. Identification of the compounds was performed by high performance liquid chromatography and structural elucidation by nuclea...
